I became a self-made millionaire from the success of my biggest enterprise to date: Diva Cosmetics, which was founded after I spotted a gap in the market for colour cosmetics at the height of The Spice Girls fame in the late 90s. Following a 10 year career in-house at Revlon, I seized the opportunity to nurse my entrepreneurial itch and Diva Cosmetics was born. The business rapidly became the leading supplier of own labeled colour cosmetics to the majority of high street chains including New Look, Monsoon Accessorize, River Island, and George@Asda. I set up Diva Cosmetics from my kitchen table when my eldest son was a new-born. The business rapidly grew to accommodate a full-time team of twelve with offices in central Bournemouth. I sold the business in 2003 to spend more time with my family.
After the birth of my third child – I realised that I missed working and when I was approached to mentor local businesses I jumped at the chance. I have since worked with hundreds of business owners trouble-shooting and problem-solving, taking them to sound success and generating additional profits. My style is totally unique – and I have been referred to as the “Mary Poppins of Business” – I won’t stand for any nonsense!
I put the success of Diva Cosmetics down to the following of 7 key Business Disciplines. I base my business mentoring around these 7 key areas – and when other businesses were seeing and feeling the difference in the way they worked and benefiting from increases in turnover and profit, I decided to write BOOM! 7 disciplines to CONTROL, GROW and ADD IMPACT to your business. Writing BOOM! has been one of the greatest achievements of my life (after having three children!)
Since the writing of BOOM! I have been asked to speak to many different groups of entrepreneurs across the UK – it gives me enormous pleasure to inspire, motivate and encourage business owners to aim-high and achieve more.
I am regularly asked to contribute to the UK press and I still get a thrill when I see my name in print! I have been on LBC Radio and in 2009 I was one of the Big Shots in the BBC Show Beat The Boss. This really brought out my competitive nature – even though my opponents were 10 year old children – I was very pleased to be part of the winning team.
