The arrangement between us, in plain English. Nothing here is designed to catch anybody out; if something seems unfair, tell me and we will talk about it.
Who you are contracting with
Emma Wimhurst, a self-employed tutor based in Wimborne, Dorset. Where the student is under eighteen, the agreement is with the parent or carer who books and pays.
Getting started
We begin with a free twenty-minute call. If we go ahead, I will confirm the arrangement by email — the target grade, the weaknesses we are working on, the day and time, and the fee. That email and these terms together form our agreement.
Fees
- £70 per hour for GCSE and A Level alike.
- £60 per hour in blocks of twelve lessons — £720, paid in advance.
- Lessons are sixty minutes as standard. Ninety-minute lessons are available in the run-up to exams at the same hourly rate.
- Fees are reviewed each September. Existing students are given at least a month’s notice of any change, and a block already paid for is never repriced.
Payment
Payment is by bank transfer (BACS). I invoice every four lessons, or in advance where you have bought a block. Invoices are payable within seven days.
If an invoice goes unpaid for more than fourteen days I will pause lessons until it is settled, having told you first.
Cancellations and missed lessons
- 48 hours’ notice or more: we rearrange, at no charge.
- Less than 48 hours: the lesson is charged in full, because the slot cannot usually be filled at that notice.
- Illness or a genuine emergency: I will waive that charge. I am not in the business of fining families for having a bad week.
- If I cancel: the lesson is rearranged at your convenience, or refunded.
Term time and holidays
Lessons run weekly during term time by default. Holiday sessions, including intensive revision before exams, are by arrangement. Your regular slot is held for you during term.
Ending the arrangement
Either of us can stop at any time, with two weeks’ notice where possible.
If you have paid for a block and stop partway through, I refund the lessons not taken. The lessons already used are recalculated at the standard £70 rate, since the £60 rate is a discount for committing to twelve.
What I will and will not do
I will teach the specification, set retrieval between lessons, mark work honestly and tell you the truth about how it is going — including when the answer is that the work is not being done.
I will not write, redraft or edit any piece of work that is submitted for assessment, including coursework and non-examined assessment. That is malpractice, and it would put your child’s grade at risk. I will teach the skills and explain the criteria, which is a great deal more useful anyway.
I cannot guarantee a grade, and I would be wary of anyone who does. What I can promise is that we will find where the marks are going and work on that.
How lessons run
Online via Microsoft Teams as standard, with a shared OneNote workbook that your child keeps. In person in Wimborne and the surrounding area by arrangement. Please see my safeguarding statement for how sessions are conducted.
If something goes wrong
Tell me. Email or ring, and I will acknowledge it within two working days and give you a considered answer within five. Most things are a misunderstanding and are sorted out in a phone call.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
